Pumpkins

Pumpkins in June...these seeds germinated from the
pumpkins I bought at Walmart last Fall.
After a few months we threw them in the compost
pile.  If you will scroll down to the 4th and 5th
picture after the pic with the dog, you will
see the vine in the center and a picture when they
were very small.

Have a great week!
Time to get busy for craft shows..only a
few months away...for us (including me) that don't
have nearly enough inventory to have a show.

Yesterday I decided to pull out the glass paint from
way back in the cabinet, wipe the dust off and
paint glasses. My thing is daisies this summer..can't
get enough of them..so
I decided to paint daisies on these two glasses.
It has probably been 3 years since I painted on
glass. Some of the paint was dry but lucky for me
the yellow, white and brown was still good.
Wipe the glasses with vinegar to remove oils and
whatever may be on them...do not have lotion on
your hands..I hold the glass by the top and sometimes
put my hand in it to hold in place.
It took about 20 minutes to paint these two glasses.

Into a COLD oven for 30 minutes..set temp @ 325..
at the end of time turn off oven, I open the door because
I don't want to wait for the oven to get cold with the door closed
before I can get them out.  I usually let them age for a
couple days before I clean up whatever spots are on
them...with vinegar.

A quick and easy project.  If you have never painted on
glass, give it a try...it is very forgiving..just keep
the vinegar and cotton swab close by.
I used Delta Perm Enamel and Apple Barrel Indoor-
Outdoor gloss acrylic enamel. I prefer the gloss
paint over the satin finish. Do Not use water base
acrylic paint. Soap and water or brush cleaner can
be used to clean brushes but clean them immediately
after you finish painting.
I always wash my painted glassware by hand.

Total cost $2.00 @ at Dollar Tree.
I think I will go back and get a few more glasses.
That was fun!!

Pics of our garden

We had a thunderstorm come thru our area late yesterday
afternoon. Tree fell on the power line and was without power
almost 2 hours
These pics were taken after the rain..
seems like everything doubled in size.
We are eating a lot of broccoli...seems like it is all ready
to pick at the same time.
The cabbage has started forming in the center...we could
not find the plants until late in the season, so if the
temperature rises into the 90's, it will not make it..they
prefer cooler weather. They were planted the first week in April.

There are 21 tomato plants and most have tomatoes about
1 inch in diameter. We planted these by the phase of the moon...
April 12 and 13...will let you know how that goes...the yeild is
suppose to be greater.

In case you would like to compare your growing seasons
with our  pictures...we are located in SW GA.

Broccoli..we planted 8 plants.

In the center of pic below is a vine that we did not plant,
started growing from seeds thrown in the compost bed.
Not sure what it is yet but it is growing like crazy..see
pic below.

Happy Mother's Day

Mothers are a promise from God that
you will have a friend forever.
My mom when she was 16 years old.
We miss you but take comfort in our memories
and that we will see you one day.

On my way to the post office

Pictures of our garden.

This morning glory is at the post office..it thrives
on neglect...it's a cloudy day but look how the light
is shining through the center...it's like there is a clear
bulb in it.....absoultely beautiful.

Honeysuckle growing along the old dirt road that
is by my house. The smell in intoxicating.

This cactus grows at the edge of our property
and down the old dirt road.
This picture is in the fall..I'm told the maroon
bulbs on the top are edible...haven't worked up
enough courage to try.

You should see the dog in the strawberries finding the
perfect one to eat...and she knows to choose the
red ones...her limit is 4.
Belle

I call it a bottle brush plant...beautiful

Garden pictures...still have a few things to plant.

cabbage and broccoli
kudzu bugs have invaded south Georgia...but this
is not kudzu....it's my wisteria.
I will be mixing up a special cocktail for them
today when the dew dries. They feed by sucking
the nutrients from the plant...glad we noticed them
before the plant was destroyed.

Country living is the best

We have lived in the country for 13 years
and have loved every minute of it...or almost
every minute. It was such a nice day here
and we opened the front door to let the
sunshine in. A few minutes later my husband called
me to the living room where laid a snake in
the coiled position...the cat had been playing
with him. So we pick him up and take him outside
and dispose of him. About an hour later I saw the
cat out of the corner of my eye and she had
a skink about 5 inches long in her mouth. So I
chased her to the bedroom, praying that she
kept him in her mouth...thinking all along
that if she lets him go  I will never catch
him under the bed and will not get a good nights
sleep until he he is caught.  She held him tightly
in her teeth and I took him out of her mouth and
put him outside. The picture I am going to post is
a much bigger one for those of you that are not familiar with
skinks...they are harmless..but I still do not want
them in the bed...I did not take a picture of the
one she caught. Oh, by the way for the past two nights
I have had dreams of snakes.

do you know what kind of snake this is..I could not
find it on the internet.
There was about a 1/2" opening where the rubber flap
on the glass door had slid to the right..so that is back in place now so
hopefully it won't happen again.

Then about 2 hours later I heard the cats growling...like cat fight
growling. So I go to the living room and the inside cat is trying
to attack the cat outside through the glass. Ziggy adopted us
a few weeks ago..he is our barn cat. He proudly displays his
catches of field rats for us.

So we have had an exciting day here.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.
